Weather Intelligence Summary
National
**Current National Weather Outlook:**
The United States is expected to experience a mixed weather situation on June 27, 2025. Overall, a strong high pressure ridge is favored over the Gulf of America, which is expected to bring above-normal summertime temperatures and possible extreme heat conditions across the eastern and southern parts of the country, according to the Climate Prediction Center ( NOAA) and CBS News meteorologist Nikki Nolan[2, 4.
**Drought and Heat:**
The Midwest is seeing minimal drought conditions, with only 6% of the region in Moderate to Severe Drought (D1-D2), but 23% is Abnormally Dry (D0). The region is forecast to experience above-normal temperatures in July, which may worsen drought conditions in areas with below-normal precipitation[3.
**Extreme Weather:**
- Severe storms are forecast for the Northern Plains, with potential for large hail and damaging winds. Supercells are most likely across the Dakotas, and strong outflow and localized wind damage are expected in eastern NE, CO, and KS[1.
- An extreme heat wave is expected to slam parts of the eastern United States, with record high temperatures forecast for the Plains and potential daily record highs in the Rockies and Plains[4.
- Flood and Flood Watch alerts are active in several areas, with 19 Flood Wards and 5 Flood Wards in total across the country[1.
**Current Weather:**
- Temperatures are expected to soar more than 25-35 degrees above average in the Plains on Friday, with potential daily record highs forecast for parts of the Rockies and Plains[4.
- The National Weather Service has called this heat wave "the first significant heat wave this season," with oppressive humidity and high heat indices expected through next week[4.
